Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso" (Season 4) finishes September as the #1 series on the TVision Power Score. Jason Sudeikis returns as the relentlessly upbeat American coach running AFC Richmond. A full month at the top, through a September stacked with high-profile premieres, is the clearest signal of staying power there is. New titles came at the chart from every direction, and none of them could unseat Ted Lasso.

Amazon's "Reacher" (Season 4) lands at #2 for the month. Alan Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher, the ex-Army investigator who tends to solve problems the hard way. Reacher has become one of streaming's most dependable draws, and a second-place finish for the month proves the franchise still commands attention at scale. The brand is strong enough now that it is spinning off successfully, which brings us to the next name on the list.

Amazon's "Neagley" (Season 1) debuts at #3 for September. Maria Sten steps out of the Reacher universe into her own lead as Frances Neagley, digging into the suspicious death of an old friend, with Alan Ritchson stopping by as Reacher himself. A spinoff cracking the monthly top three in its first month is rare. The audience didn't just sample it, they followed Neagley out on her own, and the Reacher universe is suddenly looking less like a single hit and more like a franchise with legs.

Apple TV+'s "Mayday" finishes September as the #1 film on the TVision Power Score. Ryan Reynolds plays a US Navy pilot shot down over Soviet territory in 1987, forced to trust an ex-KGB agent turned carpenter, played by Kenneth Branagh, to get him to safety. A Cold War survival thriller with two stars this big was always going to draw a crowd, and it pulled the most film attention of any title all month. Star power plus a clean, high-stakes hook is a formula that still works.

Amazon's "The Runner" takes #2 for the month. Gal Gadot stars as a London prosecutor who gets a call telling her that her son has been kidnapped, then is forced to race across the city to stop a key witness from testifying, with her child's life hanging on whether she can pull it off. The ticking-clock premise is built for tension, and pairing it with a star of Gadot's wattage gave the film a big audience the moment it landed. A taut real-time thriller is exactly the kind of watch that travels on streaming.

Netflix's "Why Did I Get Married Again?" rounds out the top three, debuting at #3. Tyler Perry reunites his ensemble, including Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, and Tasha Smith, as the couples gather in Italy for a destination wedding that stirs up old secrets and new drama. Arriving 16 years after the last installment, the film proved the appetite for these characters never faded. A top-three debut says a loyal audience was waiting, and they showed up the moment it dropped.

Methodology & Metrics

TVision measures Viewer Presence and Attention for every second of programming and advertising on television. Every time a person walks into the room, our technology detects who the viewer is, where they are in the room, and what their eyes are looking at. We do all this without personally identifying individual users, and without transmitting any images or videos. TVision’s data is collected from an opt-in panel of 5,000 homes across the United States and weighted to represent the country. All demographic data is self-reported by the respondents. Linear and CTV ad impressions data in this report is from May 1 – May 31, 2023 or May 29 – June 4, 2023, unless otherwise indicated.

About the TVision Power Score

The TVision Power Score is a completely new ranking designed to factor in both viewership and engagement when measuring the performance of CTV programming. The Power Score is based on the industry’s most comprehensive view of the CTV landscape - TVision measures activity across over 1,000 apps - and enables an accurate understanding of the relative performance of CTV content across any app. This new way to understand show performance will enable industry watchers to more quickly identify trending content and CTV’s hottest programming and even uncover hidden gems distributed through smaller apps.

The TVision Power Score factors in four key metrics: the amount of time viewers pay attention to the program, the amount of program time available for the season, the program’s reach, as well as the application’s reach. This combination of metrics was chosen to enable a neutral look at the quality of programming and its unique, inherent ability to draw in viewers - regardless of the scale of the platform, or the program’s release schedule.
